Why JRB
The Joint Retirement Board administers the retirement plan for all those employed by Conservative Movement synagogues and affiliated organizations.
Who We Are
The Joint Retirement Board for Conservative Judaism, Amutah, (JRB) is the plan sponsor and plan administrator of a denominational retirement plan for rabbis, cantors and professional and administrative staff for the congregations and affiliated organizations of Conservative Judaism.
Founded in 1945, the JRB shares common religious bonds and convictions with the Conservative Movement and is led by a distinguished group representing the Cantors Assembly, the Jewish Theological Seminary, the Rabbinical Assembly and the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, as well as the Jewish Educators Assembly and the North American Association of Synagogue Executives.
Our Mission
Our mission is to administer a 403(b) retirement savings plan that serves those who are dedicating their professional lives to the Conservative Movement. We provide education and guidance to help these valued employees build a financially secure retirement.
The JRB is a not-for-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
JRB Plan
The Joint Retirement Board 403(b)(9) Retirement Plan is a defined contribution program for clergy and others working for synagogues, schools, and affiliated organizations of the Conservative Movement.
Under this self-directed plan, participants make contributions on a pre-tax basis, allowing them to lower their taxes and accumulate retirement savings on a tax-deferred basis. The JRB Plan is designated as a “church plan,” which affords retired clergy the opportunity to continue their housing allowance in retirement.
We Work with Participants to:
- Select and monitor Plan investments
- Educate participants about investing and planning for retirement
- Offer one-on-one consultations to build financial and retirement strategies
- Conduct educational presentations at denominational conferences and conventions
Who is Eligible
You are eligible to participate in the JRB Plan if you are:
- An employee of an affiliated congregation of The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism or an affiliated employer of the Conservative Movement (e.g., Schechter Day Schools Camp Ramah, Woman’s League for Conservative Judaism, etc.);
- A member of either the Cantors Assembly or Rabbinical Assembly who is employed as clergy, regardless of the type of employer; or
